SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) offers various grants to eligible Africans to help them cover their expenses with the rising cost of living. The monthly benefit of SASSA is available for the elderly, disabled, children, and others.
SASSA Grants Payment Dates
The SASSA offers monthly grants, such as Old Age, Disability, Children, and Social Relief Distress Grant to eligible Africans. With financial support, the government intends to boost the purchasing power of lower-income families and ensure they live a decent life where they have proper food and shelter.
Every category of citizen can receive the SASSA grants based on their eligibility, so South Africans who qualify for any of these grants can expect their next payment in December soon. Generally, the agency processes the payment in the first week of the month for some grants and for some on specific dates.

SASSA Grants Payment Amount
The government increased the South African SASSA grant this year to mitigate poverty and promote society welfare. The government targets the elderly, children, and disabled people from lower-income families the most.
So, based on the increased value of SASSA grants, the beneficiaries can expect the following payment based on the benefit they qualify for:
- SRD grant: The government has increased the grant by R10 to R370.
- Older Person’s Grant: The elderly people who qualify for the Older Persons Grant and meet the age criteria will receive an R2190 amount from earlier R2180, however, beneficiaries who aged above 75 years will receive the hiked rate of R2210 from the previous rate of R2200.
- Disability Grant: The disability Grant recipient can expect an additional R10, making their payment R2190.
- Child Support Grant: The SASSA recipient eligible for the Child support will receive a payment of $530 for each child qualifying for the grant.
Apart from these benefits, SASSA has other benefits as well, where the R10 amount was increased in the previous amounts for the beneficiaries in the October 2024 budget.
How do the recipients receive the SASSA grants?
The SASSA disbursed the grants through various methods, the beneficiaries can select the convenient way for themselves to receive the payment. Here are the various ways through which you can receive the SASSA grants:
- Bank Account Transfer: The agency will deposit the payout directly to your bank account on the payout date
- Retail Store withdrawals: The beneficiaries can withdraw the payment through their SASSA gold card at Pick n Pay, SPAR, boxer, USAve, Shoprite, Checkers easily and use the payment,
- ATMs or Post Office for people without bank accounts: Beneficiaries who don’t hold a bank account can easily receive their payment via Post Office or SASSA card and use it in daily life.

The SASSA beneficiaries can check their grant payment status in many ways with their South African ID number and registered phone number. The agency allows the users to track their status in various ways, such as:

The most convenient, reliable, and easy way to track the payment status is online method, the beneficiaries can follow the below steps to check their payment status:
- You should open the official website of SASSA at https://sassa-status.co.za/
- Next, you should click on the status check option on the homepage.
- Enter your registered mobile number and South African ID in the appropriate box on the next page.
- Once you enter the details, crosscheck it and click the Submit button.
- After you click the Submit button, your SASSA grant payment status will display on your screen with the upcoming payment dates.
When the SASSA processes your payment or when you check your status, the agency sends you an SMS on a registered mobile number about your payment and confirmed status.
What does the SASSA Grant status indicate?
The SASSA recipients check their Grant payment status or application status, they receive the response in the following phrases:
- Application is pending, meaning the agency is still reviewing your application.
- Approved Status, meaning your payment is approved by the agency
- Status Decline means your application for the grant is declined due to some reasons, such as you no longer meet the eligibility conditions.
- Alternative income sources that may halt your payment are found in your records.
