PIP, DLA, and ADP Benefit Rates – Check the New Payout Amount!

Personal Independence Payment and Disability Living Allowance are government benefits that should support individuals with long-term health conditions or disabilities in meeting extra costs relating to their condition. In any case, DLA is being phased out, while PIP is the more recent system replacing it in most cases.

PIP, DLA, and ADP Benefit Rates

The UK landscape of disability benefits is not easy to navigate. There are three main benefits available for people with long-term health conditions or disabilities: Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), and Adult Disability Payment (ADP). Each has its own eligibility criteria and payment structure, so it is very important to understand the differences.

The UK weekly benefit rates in PIP, DLA, and ADP are as follows; For PIP, The Daily Living Component stands at £72.65 standard rate while at the enhanced rate. The Mobility Component will be payable at £28.70 standard rate and at £75.75 standard rate at the enhanced rate.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

DLA is a tax-free benefit, aiming to support those people that require assistance with daily living needs or have mobility problems due to an illness or disability. Two parts are offered:

  • Care Component: For those individuals who require help in activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting.
  • Mobility Component: For those with difficulties in moving around indoors and outdoors.

DLA Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for DLA, you must meet the following conditions:

  • You are below the State Pension age.
  • You must have a long-term physical or mental disability condition.
  • You cannot do some things or have some difficulties with daily living activities or getting around.
  • You were born before April 8, 1948, (for adults).

DLA Rates

DLA rates can change, so you will need to check for current information. As of writing this in November 2024, the rates are as follows:

Component Weekly Rate
Care Component (Lowest) £28.70
Care Component (Middle) £72.65
Care Component (Highest) £108.55
Mobility Component (Lower) £28.70
Mobility Component (Higher) £75.75

  • Customers are also given one, two or both components if a higher need is found about both daily living and mobility.
  • DLA is however still in use for the adults who were born prior to April 8th, 1948, even though it is operational and active until and unless they are reassessed.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

PIP replaced DLA for persons over 16 and under the State Pension age. PIP is designed to give financial support to individuals who have a long-term illness or disability that seriously impacts or severely limits their ability to carry out daily living and mobility.

Eligibility Criteria for PIP

You are eligible for PIP if:

  • You are 16 years or older.
  • You have a condition classified as a physical or mental health condition that can be classified as long-term.
  • Have difficulties in personal daily activities or moving about.
  • The difficulties should last for at least 12 months.

PIP Payment Rates

Similar to DLA, PIP consists of two elements:

Daily Living Component

Component Weekly Rate
Daily Living (Standard) £72.65
Daily Living (Enhanced) £108.55
Mobility (Standard) £28.70
Mobility (Enhanced) £75.75

Adult Disability Payment (ADP)

It is relatively a new benefit and has been incorporated into Scotland to replace PIP when it comes to application for benefits. This is part of the process of devolving social security power by the Scottish Government instead of striving to deliver the same amount of relief for the disabled as was achieved through PIP. Although ADP is not currently administered by Social Security Scotland.

Adult Disability Payment Eligibility Conditions (ADP)

You must meet each of the following:

  • aged between 16 and State Pension age
  • normally resident in Scotland.
  • Believed to have a condition or illness that has lasted, or is likely to last, for at least 12 months.
  • Unable to do daily living or mobility activities or have severe problems with such activities.

ADP Rates Explained

The ADP benefit is also quite similar to PIP
