Equifax Breach Settlement Amount Per Person
The Federal Trade Commission has updated the Equifax data breach settlement administrator and has begun the process of sending out the settlement benefit to the valid claimants. People who have filed the submitted claim before the deadline await their settlement payout.
Class members can check out their payout person based on the settlement compensation category they qualify for below:
- Time Spent: The class members who spent time protecting or recovering from the theft of identity can receive $25 per hour for up to 20 hours when you describe the data breach and preventive measures taken.
- Out-of-pocket losses: Claimants who have spent money or time and had a monetary loss during the claim period 23 Jan 2020 and 22 Jan 2024 can receive a reimbursement of up to $20,000. You can receive 25% of the cost of credit monitoring or identity monitoring subscription for a year’s proceedings 07 Sep 2017.
Equifax Data Breach Settlement other benefits
Apart from the monetary benefit, the settlement offers another benefit as well and the defendant promises some business practices. Here are the other benefits offered in the Equifax Data breach settlement:
- Credit Monitoring Service for Free: The settlement offers four years of free credit monitoring reports from all three credit bureaus, such as Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. Moreover, the claimants can get an additional six years of Equifax credit report under the settlement.
- Identity Restoration services for free: The class members who have faced identity theft due to the Equifax data breach with valid claims will receive access to Assisted Identity theft restoration services for seven years. The benefits include assistance in dealing with credit bureaus, and government agencies, access to a call center that helps in identity restoration, and a certified Identity Theft restoration Specialist to help in restoring your future identity theft.
The defendant has promised the following business practices to avoid such circumstances to provide relief to the users:
- The company will implement a program where they can offer prompt notice to the users in incidents like data breaches to avoid damage to the user’s private information.
- The defendants plan to adopt, maintain, or pay for the security system that safeguards the user’s personal information.
- The class members enrolled in TrsutedID premier monitoring an additional year of credit monitoring services IDNotify.
Distribution of the Equifax Data Breach Settlement
Before the Equifax Data Breach settlement fund is distributed among the class members, it will be used to meet the following expenses:
- Cost of administering the settlement, such as notifying the class members, etc.
- Service awards up to $2,500 for each Class Representative
- Attorney’s fees are up to $77,500,000 and expenses cost up to $3,000,000 to pay for the Consumer Restitution Fund
- Restoration services cost for all class members
- Credit Monitoring Service Purchase
After the above expenses are deducted from the above settlement fund, the administrator will process the payout for the class members. The out-of-pocket losses will be covered in the $125,000,000 fund.
The time spent reimbursement will be covered through the separate fund of $31 million kept from the $380,500,000 fund. However, after the extended claim, the total cost for the time spent on compensation is estimated at around $38 million.
When will you receive the Equifax Data breach settlement amount?
As per the recent update, the Equifax Data breach settlement appeals are resolved, and the settlement is effective now. The settlement administrator is prepared to process the compensation for the class members with valid claims.
The FTC notice confirms the administrator is distributing the out-of-pocket losses, cash reimbursement, and time spent claims in November 2024. People who have previously received the payment and filed the extended claim can expect the payout soon or may have already received the payment.

Exclusions:
- You have opted out from the Equifax breach settlement timely.
- Employees, directors, or officers of Equifax are excluded from the settlement.
- The judges, or staff associated with the Equifax settlement and their immediate family members are excluded from the settlement.
