Clif Bar Class Action Lawsuit Settlement: Claim Deadline and Eligibility!

The Clif Kid ZBars and original Bar class action lawsuit final approval hearing occurred on 14 November 2024. The US District Court of Northern California has extended the claim deadline for the eligible class members till 01 February 2025. 

The US household who purchased the Clif Bars and Clif ZBars during the class period for household use only and hasn’t submitted the claim yet can still claim compensation from the $12 million settlement fund. Clif Bar Class Action Lawsuit Settlement

A lawsuit was filed against Clif Bar & Co. in April 2018 alleging the defendants had misled the customers with nutritional and healthy labeling, whereas the Clif Bar and Kids Z bar have added sugar content into it. The lawsuit claims the defendants have violated consumer law with such practices where it labeled the product as healthy to boost the sale. 

The lawsuit claims that Kid Z Bar bears the label of No High Fructose Corn Syrup, whereas the original Clif Bars was labeled with Nutrition for Sustained Energy making the consumers buy the product. 

The defendant has denied the allegations but proposed to settle the class action settlement with a $12 million fund. Under the lawsuit, the final approval hearing was held recently on 14 Nov 2024, where the Court has extended the claim form deadline to 01 Feb 2025 from 25 November 2024 to allow the affected customers more time to file the claim.  

What makes you eligible for the Clif Bar Class Action Settlement?

People who meet the following eligibility requirements for the Clif Bar Class Action settlement class member can submit their claim form:

  • You have purchased the class products in the United States for household use only not for sale or distribution during the class period of 19 April 2014 to 31 March 2023 in California and New York residence, whereas the class period for members living outside New York and California is 31 March 2019 to 31 March 2023. 
  • The class product of the Clif Bar class action includes (i) Clif Kid ZBar labeled as Nourishing Lids in motion or No High Fructose Corn syrup go-to nutritious snack for Kids, (ii) Clif Bars (original) 
  • You have not submitted the settlement exclusion form by the deadline of 22 October 2024  and give up your right to claim the settlement and exclude yourself from the settlement. 

Clif Bar Class Action Lawsuit Settlement Amount 

The defendant has agreed to monetary and injunctive relief where they will provide a $12 million settlement to compensate customers and promised the company will not use such healthy phrases in their class products for a minimum of two years. 

The $12 million settlement will be first used to cover the expenses, such as administration costs, attorney’s fees & costs, and service awards for class representatives before distributing the remaining funds to the eligible class members with valid claims.  Based on the settlement agreement, the valid claimants will receive the payment based on the class product type and purchased amount. 

The Valid claimants of the Clif Bar Class action settlement can check the compensation amount based quantity of the product or submit the proof of purchase below:

  • You will receive the following amount whether they have provided or not provided the proof of purchase:
  • You have purchased the Clif class products up to 30 bars, you will be entitled to receive $5,
  •  If you have bought 31 to 60 bars during the class period, you will be entitled to receive $10,
  • If you have bought more than 60 bars during the class period, you will be entitled to receive $15. 
  • Now, class members who have submitted their proof of purchase of class products will receive $15 for 60 bars with an additional $0.25 for each additional bar up to $50. 

If the value of the approved claim exceeds the estimated value, the cash payment amount can be reduced to ensure all class members are compensated. The unclaimed cash payment will be distributed to the class members who have claimed the initial payments. 

How to submit the claim for the Clif Bar Class Action Lawsuit Settlement?

The eligible consumers of Clif Bar and Kid ZBar who meet the eligibility requirements can submit their claim to receive compensation in the following ways:

  • Online: The settlement website of Clif Bar class action is already in function, interested class members can visit the website at https://www.barsclassaction.com/ and submit their claim with the relevant information, name, mailing address, city, email address, phone number, etc., select the purchased product and provide the evidence of purchase if any. 
  • Post: The class members can take a printout of the claim form from the Clif Bar class action settlement website, fill out the form, and postmark it at the following address:

When will you receive the Clif Bar Settlement Payout?

The Court has approved the Clif Bar Settlement agreements, the valid claimants can expect the payments after the deadline for claim form submission ends on 01 Feb 2025. The defendants will send the approved fund to the Common fund of administration and the settlement administrator will process the settlement distribution based on the valid claims. 

The court may keep another hearing if the payout changes based on some valid claims or if someone appeals the settlement. In that case, the distribution will be stopped until the issue is resolved, otherwise the class members with valid claims can expect the payments 90 to 180 days after the distribution process begins.

The Clif Bar class action settlement claim form deadline has been extended, and now the consumers who haven’t filed their claims should file their claims to receive compensation for misleading advertisement.
